In this tenebrous track, the piano paints the backdrop of a dark, Dorian-mode atmosphere, sometimes static, sometimes tumbling forward over itself. After the opening, more static section, the harp introduces an element of mystery, and in the tumbling sections the higher-register piano steps forth with an assertive, if serious, melody as the lower-register piano continues to provide rhythmic undulations.
