Paul Dukas was born October 1, 1865 and died May 17, 1935. He was a Parisian-born French composer and teacher of classical music.
Dukas was perfectionistic and destroyed many of his pieces out of dissatisfaction and only a few of his compositions remain. One of these pieces is the energetic Symphony (1896). The symphony was followed by The Sorcerer's Apprentice, which is based on Goethe's poem "Der Zauberlehrling". The Sorcerer's Apprentice was used in the Walt Disney film Fantasia, which accounts for much of its fame.
